STRAND 1: ORAL LANGUAGE Sub-Strand 1: Songs
• Have learners sing some familiar patriotic songs. • Have learners listen to you sing a selected song. • Guide learners to sing lines of the song with appropriate stress and rhythm. • Let them sing individually and in groups. • Using questions discuss the central message of the target song: Who composed this song? What is the song telling us? • Invite individuals to explain the central message(s) of the song.

• Ask learners to recite a poem of their choice with actions. • Choose a poem appropriate for the grade level. • Recite and act out the poem as learners listen attentively to you and observe. • Allow some individual learners to recite as others listen. • Lead learners to recite lines of the poem with correct stress, clapping and tapping out the rhythm.
